Council of women celebrates Int'l Women's Day |

The local government and Federation of Canaman Council of Women, Inc. (FCCWI) joined the world in celebration of the International Women’s Day held last March 16 at Gabaldon building in Canaman Central School.
International Women's Day celebration highlights women’s leadership roles, participation in decision-making and in the political arena, peace building and conflict resolution, while strengthening its partnership with the media in the promotion of women’s rights and advocating and addressing gender issues.
This year’s theme is dubbed as "Kabakaihan: Gabay sa Paghatak sa Tuwid na Daan" underscores the need to accelerate women’s participation to enhance gender perspective in upholding good governance.
The celebration was held in consonance with President Benigno Aquino III’s pursuit and vision of ‘tuwid na daan,’ underscoring the need to accelerate women’s participation in governance and enhance gender perspective in upholding good governance. (IPST)

LGU joins nationwide PhilHealth run |

The nationwide PhilHealth Run 2013 drew thousands of runners which included employees from the government and private sectors, students, representatives from different non-government agencies and running enthusiasts.
In Legazpi City where the Bicol leg was held, some 4,000 runners joined the event in support of the country's efforts towards achieving the Millenium Development Goals of reducing child mortality and improving maternal health.
Bicol Mail reported Regional Vice President Orlando D. Iñigo, Jr. emphasized that the PhilHealth Run focuses on four areas, Maternal and Child Care, which is the primary objective of the run with the beneficiaries , Universal Health Care where the run was a symbolic celebration on the attainment of this PhilHealth mandate, Synergy of various stakeholders, and Equity for all.
Proceeds from the event simultaneously held on February 17 will be used to support national and regional institutions promoting the protection of mothers and children in the country.
The national beneficiary of the PhilHealth Run 2013 is the Philippine Children's Medical Center, and local beneficiaries vary per region. (IPST)

Manalo cited for best research paper in Malaysia |

Jaime Manalo IV's research entitled "Beyond Facebook: The undocumented experiences on ICTs of young rural Filipinos” which tackled notions of the ICT proficiency of the Filipino youth has won one of the top awards in a communication conference in Malaysia. His work talked about the impact of information and communications technology (ICT) on the rural youth.
Philippine Information Agency and GMA News reported Manalo won the Best Qualitative Conference Paper Award at the 2012 International Conference on Communication and Media (i-COME) in Penang, Malaysia. Associate Professor Elske van de Fliert co-authored the paper.
Manalo was an Australian Leadership Awards scholar. He earned his master's degree at the University of Queensland in 2011.
In April 2012, his study on youth perceptions on rice farming in the Philippines emerged as the best paper in the Technology Extension, Dissemination, and Education category of the annual Crop Science Society of the Philippines (CSSP) conference. The study was also co-authored with Elske van de Fliert. (IPST)

Miss Ramashinta attracted eighteen young women including six alumnae of Miss Canaman in the first ever Ramashinta model search.
Current Miss Canaman Royce Espinosa and runner-up Glaiza Novelo, last year's finalists Elizabeth Sta. Rosa, Justine Joy Bedredo and Liezel Taduran, and Janels Molina competed against the fiercest aspiring models from accross the region in lingerie, swimwear and other women's fashion clothing.
Sta. Rosa was named most photogenic while Espinosa won in Victoria Secret lingerie competition and placed second runner-up to crowd favorite Chazala Al-Dossari (center) of Libmanan.

CANAMAN, CAMARINES SUR - Office of the Election Officer received twenty-six certificates of candidacy (COC) filed for municipal mayor, vice mayor and councilor positions from October 1 until 5.
Incumbent Mayor Emmanuel S. Requejo will be running for his 3rd term for municipal mayor with running-mate incumbent Vice Mayor Henry P. Ragodon under Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC). Requejo will face former mayor Joel David S. Abante of Liberal Party (LP) and former councilor Ferdinad N. Goce who is running independent.
For municipal councilor, five incumbent Sanggunian Members will seek reelection including Larry Nico M. Basmayor (NPC), Honesto M. Bermudo Jr. (NPC), Digno F. Caudilla (NPC), Nelson M. Legaspi (NPC) and Rolando R. Espiritu (Nacionalista Party). Former vice mayor Venancio B. Regulado, current LB Federation President and Baras barangay chairman Rommel O. Amaro and San Agustin barangay chairman Jessie L. Regalado complete the ticket of Nationalist People's Coalition.
